Adel al-Jubair

Saudi Minister of State for Foreign Affairs has emphasized that Riyadh is not against talks with Tehran, but once again repeated baseless allegations against the Islamic Republic claiming Iran was behind a recent attack on Aramco oil facilities in eastern Saudi Arabia.

Iran Press/Middle East: Speaking at the IISS Manama Dialogue 2019 in Bahrain, Adel al-Jubair, accused Iran of being involved in attacks on Abqaiq and Khurais oil processing facilities in eastern Saudi Arabia last September.

Al-Jubair said the containment policy against Tehran must continue so that an attack such as the one carried out last September is not repeated again. He also said Riyadh is not opposed to talks with Tehran, Iran Press reported.

The Saudi minister also said Tehran must not be allowed to continue with its current foreign policy and that seeking to engage or cooperate with Iran "does not work".

It is worth noting that just after the attacks on 14 September, the Yemeni Army accepted responsibility for the Aramco attacks, saying the action was in retaliation for continued Saudi war crimes and airstrikes on civilian targets in Yemen.

The drone and missile strike on Aramco oil facilities virtually halved Saudi Arabia's oil exports overnight and resulted in a rise in global oil prices. Saudi officials have failed to produce any evidence to back up their claim that Iran was involved in the incident, but have repeatedly stated that the missiles and drones came "from the north".

The Yemeni army has accepted responsibility for the Aramco attack, but Saudi officials keep ignoring what the Yemenis are saying since it does not fit their scenario.
