Tehran (IP) - The first round of human rights talks between Iran and New Zealand was held virtually today.

Iran PressIran news: The meeting was co-chaired by the Director-General for Human Rights and Women Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran, and the Director-General of the United Nations, Human Rights, and Commonwealth of New Zealand.

The talks aimed to get acquainted with the human rights situation in the two countries, create a better understanding of the existing realities, and exchange experiences between the two countries in human rights.

The Iranian representative explained Tehran's view on human rights and human dignity based on Islamic principles and the Constitution and the evolving process of supporting and promoting human rights standards in various fields.

For his part, the New Zealand representative described the country's efforts to promote human rights, especially in women and indigenous rights.

Women and disabilities' rights were other topics discussed.

The two sides listed their favorite topics, including the impact of climate change on human rights, combating xenophobia and Islamophobia, human trafficking, new forms of slavery, child sexual abuse, poverty.
