Iran Press/ Iran News: In a joint press conference with the Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al - Kazemi said, "I thank the President for inviting me and my accompanying delegation to travel to Tehran, the capital of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The purpose of this trip is to strengthen the historical relations that exist between the two countries."
The Iraqi high ranking official underlined that the purpose of this trip is to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries, especially today we are facing challenges, part of which is the result of the outbreak of coronavirus and falling oil prices. In the face of such challenges, we need coordination between the two countries in a way that serves the interests of Iran and Iraq.
Al-Kazemi stressed, "Iran-Iraq relations are not only due to the geographical location of the two countries and the 1450 km border, but also historical, religious and cultural relations that are rooted in history. As we discuss regional issues, stability, and peace, under the shadow of the challenges that the region faces.
The Prime Minister of Iraq said: "I address my brothers in the Islamic Republic of Iran, and emphasize that the Iraqi people are eager for excellent relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran based on the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of the two countries."
Al-Kazemi went on to say: "We fought against terrorism and takfiri groups, and the Islamic Republic of Iran was one of the first countries to stand by Iraq on this path, and we will not forget this. For this reason, Iraq has sided with Iran to help Iran overcome its economic challenges, and in this way, Iraq has become a major market for Iranian trade."
The Iraqi PM went on to say that "Our relations with Iran and different countries are based on goodwill and our effort is to work with the Islamic Republic of Iran to find ways to get the region out of the challenges and tensions it suffers from; We think that by cooperating and working with different countries in the region, we can find comprehensive solutions to end the challenges of the region"
"Iran and Iraq both suffer from economic challenges and problems, and our nations are waiting to receive better services from governments," he said.
Al-Kazemi emphasized that "Iraq does not allow a threat from its territory to be posed against Iran, especially since the relations between the two countries go back hundreds of years, but we must support these long-standing relations."
