Iran ambassador to the United Kingdom, Hamid Baeidinejad

The Iranian ambassador in the United Kingdom said that the Adrian Darya 1 cargo had been sold to a private company and that the oil was sold while the supertanker was still at sea.

Iran Press/Iran news: Iran's ambassador to the United Kingdom, Hamid Baeidinejad, on Wednesday after a meeting with the British Foreign Secretary, said Iran is aware of its right to sell its oil to whomever it wishes and in any way which is appropriate for the country.

He also wrote in his Twitter account that in today's meeting with the British Foreign Secretary, the British authorities were made aware that their impounding of an Iranian oil tanker was in breach of international laws and illegal action, Iran Press reported.

Baeidinejad added that EU sanctions could not be extended to third countries -- to countries that are not members of the European Union. Despite numerous US threats, the oil tanker has sold its oil at sea to a private company and no contract or agreement has been breached.

The Iranian tanker Adrian Darya 1 (formerly called Grace1) was seized by British Royal Marine commandos in the Strait of Gibraltar on 4th July. British officials cited EU sanctions against Syria as justification for their illegal action. Iran said that EU sanctions against Syria apply only to EU member countries, and non-EU countries are not obliged to abide by EU sanctions or regulations.

In August, Gibraltar's Supreme Court ruled that the seized Iranian oil tanker is free to sail, just hours after the United States made a last-minute attempt to keep the vessel. 101/211/216
