Iraq's president, Barham Salih officially welcomed visiting President Hassan Rouhani in the presidential palace in Baghdad on Monday.

Iran Press/Middle East: Iranian President arrived in Baghdad as the head of a high-ranking political and economic delegation.

President will have meetings with the President and Prime Minister of Iraq on deepening bilateral and regional cooperation, Iran Press reported.

On the eve of the Hassan Rouhani's trip to Baghdad, Iraq's president, Barham Salih stressed the significance of Iranian president's trip to his country in deepening and expanding bilateral ties.

He also expressed gratitude to Iran for helping Iraq overcome terrorist groups and said: "You stood with us in fighting against Saddam's dictatorship and Daesh (ISIS) assault on Iraq, and we just want to say thank you for all your assistance."

Speaking at Mehrabad Airport before leaving Tehran, Rouhani said, “The goal of this visit is deepening bilateral relations.” 

“Relations between Iran and Iraq are special,” said Rouhani, adding, “In the recent years, the people of Iran have passed a test with pride, and that is wherever the peoples of the region faced a problem and asked for the help of the Iranian nation and government, we rushed to help them.” 101
