Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces said the “humiliating” withdrawal of American forces from Syria will definitely improve security in the region.

Iran Press/Iran news: Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri added the US pullout from Syria is a humiliating withdrawal from a country, without the permission of whose people and legitimate government they (Americans) had entered.

The top general pointed to the security conditions in the Persian Gulf, stressing that regional countries alone can ensure security of the Persian Gulf, Tasnim News Agency reported.

He said, the US presence in the region would bring nothing to the region but insecurity.

Earlier this month, US President Donald Trump ordered all of the US forces in Syria to withdraw from the country.

The US began its air campaign in Syria in 2014, deploying troops to the country to purportedly assist in the fight against terrorism.

Following the surprise decision of the US President Donald Trump last week to withdraw US military forces from Syria within a one-month period, the US army evacuated a military warehouse near the Iraqi border on Friday.

On December 20, US senators from both sides of the isle reacted angrily to president Donald Trump's decision to begin pulling troops out of Syria, describing the move as a "huge Obama-like mistake." 105/208
