Iran's Energy Minister Reza Ardakanian met with Iraqi President Barham Saleh in Baghdad, Dec 27, 2018

Iran and Iraq have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on energy cooperation.

Iran PressIran news: The MoU was signed in Baghdad on Thursday by Iran's Energy Minister, Reza Ardakanian and Iraq's Electricity Minister, Luay al Khateeb after two days of intensive talks.

According to IRNA, speaking after the MoU inking, Ardakanian termed the day of signing as "a historical" day in Iraqi power industry and said the document reveals long-term framework for mutual cooperation in energy and reconstruction of Iraq electricity industry.

The Iraqi minister in turn said the MoU also envisions cooperation in new energy technologies and sharing technical know-how and experience with the Iranian party.

The Iranian minister also met with Iraqi President, Barham Saleh.

The Iraqi President has highlighted importance of bilateral relations with Tehran in all fields, especially on energy and water sectors.

President Saleh said all countries of the region share a grave responsibility in cooperation with stabilization of principles of peace and stability.

He added the neighbors shoulder a grave duty and through promotion of foundations of peace and stability through serious talks and joint cooperation, there will be more trust in line with interests of regional nations.
