Iranian navy forces are slated to dispatch three destroyers by the end of the current Iranian calendar year (ends March 22, 2019) to the high seas, Navy Commander Rear Admiral Hossein Khanzadi said.

Iran PressIran news: Iranian destroyers ‘Sahand’, ‘Dena’ and the modified ‘Damavand’ will be dispatched to the international waters, he said.

Sahand destroyer will join southern fleet on the occasion of the Navy Day (November 28), he noted in an interview with IRNA.

Sahand is capable of transporting anti-mine helicopters and is able to move farther distances than Jamaran destroyer, Khanzadi added.

He went on to say that the modified version of Damavand destroyer will be dispatched to northern fleet.

Dena destroyer is also being equipped and armed, he said, adding that 80 percent of the operation has been finalized.

Iranian submarine will make enemies surprised, Khanzadi said referring to the fact that Iran has become self-sufficient in making submarines.

The submarine is completely indigenized and has been made by Iranian Defense Ministry, he reiterated. 

Pointing to Iran’s self-sufficiency in making equipment and weaponry, Khanzadi said that sanctions have no effect. 

Iranian naval fleet has powerful presence in Indian Ocean, Gulf of Aden, Bab-el-Mandeb, South China Sea and Strait of Gibraltar to safeguard trade fleet and Iranian oil tankers, he added.

Speaking in a press conference on Wednesday, November 21, Rear Admiral Hossein Khanzadi said, "Sanctions taught us to stand on our own feet, and rely on no country for establishment of security. There is no insecurity in the Persian Gulf and Strait of Hormuz."  101/202
