European Energy Commissioner Miguel Arias Canete may visit Tehran on 19 May to discuss EU-Iran energy cooperation, according to EU spokeswoman, Maja Kocijancic.

Speaking to journalists, spokeswoman Maja Kocijancic said EU's Energy Commissioner, Miguel Arias Canete, might visit Tehran on 19 May.  She added:  "The program is still in the final stage of negotiations".

The EU spokeswoman said the visit is very important to preserve the nuclear deal as long as Iran, in its turn, remains committed to the agreement.

The news comes a week after US president Donald Trump announced the U.S. would exit the 2015 nuclear deal, also called the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

In spite of US withdrawal from JCPOA,   the European signatories to the deal, France,Britain and Germany, are insisting they remain committed to the agreement ( JCPOA ).

UN Secretary General António Guterres also announced  the United Nations support for EU efforts to rescue the Iran nuclear deal (JCPOA ).
