September 8 massacre accelerated the victory of the Islamic Revolution
The head of the Coordination Council of Islamic Publicity in Tehran has called the massacre of Iranian protesters on 8 September 1978 as the accelerator of the victory of the Islamic Revolution.
Iran Press/Iran news: In an exclusive interview with Iran Press on Sunday, Hojjat-ol-Islam Seyyed Mohsen Mahmoudi said the massacring of Iranian protesters on 8 September 1978 (corresponding to 17th Shahrivar 1357 on the Iranian calendar) demonstrated the Shah's betrayal of the Iranian nation, and the fact that the Israeli regime and the United States where backing the Shah's regime and also betraying the Iranian people.
Speaking at a special ceremony in Tehran marking the 41st anniversary of Black Friday (the 8 September 1978 massacre) the Head of Coordination Council of Islamic Publicity said after the massacre on 8 September 1978 the Iranian people were motivated and encouraged to continue their anti-Shah protests with even more vigour and enthusiasm than before.
Hojjat-ol-Islam Mahmoudi added: "After 17 Shahrivar massacre, people were encouraged more to fight and counter the despotic Pahlavi regime."
He pointedly added: "17th Shahrivar (8 September) gave more momentum and impetus to the anti-Shah rallies countering the despotic Pahlavi regime, and this directly led to the 11 February 1979 (22 Bahman 1357) victory of the Islamic Revolution."
Elsewhere in his remarks, Hojjat-ol-Islam Mahmoudi said: "By commemorating and honouring this day, we intend to highlight the crimes committed by the despotic Pahlavi regime, and we also hope to guide the future generations, and act as a beacon of light to guide the future path of the Islamic revolution."
