Josep Borrell

Acting Spanish Foreign Minister has said that Iran's uranium enrichment is not against the nuclear deal and it is a rather technical move.

Iran Press/Europe: Acting Spanish Foreign Minister Josep Borrell said in an interview with Cadena SER Spanish Radio Channel on serving as the next top diplomat for the European Union in Brussels that the issue would matter a lot for Spain and for him as the Spanish FM." I am proud of it", He stressed.

Speaking on the possible upcoming challenges he might face in terms of Iran's nuclear deal known as JCPOA (the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action) as well as a possible military confrontation that might happen between Iran and the United States, Josep Borell said that he believes that the situation will not deteriorate and it will never come to a war. He went on to explain further that it will not be worse.

"And finally common sense and logic will be the winner," Borell highlighted while referring to the fact that he cannot speak as the European Union foreign policy chief before a vote and his approval by MEPs.

Answering a journalist's question if JCPOA can be saved or it is just a piece of torn paper, the acting Spanish Foreign Minister emphasized that Europeans have done their best to save the nuclear agreement and Iran has not violated the JCPOA.

Speaking on Iran's Uranium enrichment, Borell emphasized that the enrichment has been a technical matter, and there is no other intention behind it. Borell said Donald Trump not only broke the deal but also withdrew from it.

On the same day, the Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said that Islamic Republic will comply with the terms of the 2015 nuclear agreement, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), as long as European signatories to the deal honour their commitments.

In a post published on his official Twitter page late on Tuesday, Zarif wrote that Tehran is committed to the full implementation of the landmark nuclear agreement, reached between Iran and the 5+1 Group – the United States, Britain, France, Russia and China plus Germany – in July 2015 as long as the European parties to the agreement meet their economic commitments, Press TV reported.

He further noted that Iran will simply mirror the level of commitment shown by the European side.

ّFurthermore, Boris Johnson, who could be Britain's prime minister by the end of the month, in a television interview with Reuters on July 2, 2019 said: "I would urge again the Iranian government to think very, very hard about scrapping the JCPOA and breaching their commitments on the Iran nuclear deal." 101/203/211
