Tajik Foreign Minister, Sirodjidin Muhriddin has stressed that Iran-Tajikistan relations have improved because of the will of the two countries officials.

Iran Press/Asia: Sirodjidin Muhriddin speaking in a press conference in Dushanbe noted the historic relations of the two countries and said that in recent diplomatic talks the topic of strengthening bilateral ties had been discussed by the two countries officials.  

Muhriddin noted the resumption of weekly Mashhad-Dushanbe direct flights and said the peoples of the two countries can easily travel to their destinations, Iran Press reported.

On June 1, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani received the visiting Tajik Foreign Minister Sirodjidin Muhriddin in Tehran.

The two officials discussed a range of issues including bilateral cooperation in different fields as well as regional and international issues of importance.

Tajikistan's visiting foreign minister also met his Iranian counterpart, Mohammad Javad Zarif, with the two calling for the strengthening of bilateral relations.

Expanding political, economic, and parliamentary ties, boosting energy and transportation cooperation, holding political and consular meetings, and fighting against terrorism and extremism were among the topics discussed at the meeting.

On 15 June, Iranian President visited Dushanbe to take part in the 5th Conference on Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA). Rouhani traveled to Tajikistan at the invitation of his Tajik counterpart Emomali Rahmon.

Tajikistan and Iran have traditionally close relations, sharing many similar cultural, religious and ethnic identifiers and Iran has been a major sponsor of industrial infrastructure in Tajikistan. 101/211/205
