Iran was elected as a member of the United Nations Peacebuilding Commission (PBC) despite enduring opposition from US.

Iran Press/America: The United Nations Economic and Social Council moved on to fill vacancies on several of its subsidiary bodies on Thursday, electing Brazil, Iran and Mali to the Organizational Committee of the Peacebuilding Commission.

Iran elected by secret ballot — for terms beginning on the day of election and ending on 31 December 2020, or until that country ceases to be a Council member, Iran Press reported.

The Peacebuilding Commission (PBC) is an intergovernmental advisory body that supports peace efforts in conflict affected countries, and is a key addition to the capacity of the International Community in the broad peace agenda. 101
