During his visit, Velayati met with senior Syrian military commanders, and Syrian army officers in the region.
The Syrian field commanders explained their current operations against various terrorist groups and showed the visiting Iranian official the tunnels used by the terrorists to attack Damascus.
Velayati is in Syria to participate in a two-day conference on Quds that began in Damascus on Tuesday.
The event has been organized by Awqaf (Endowment) Ministry of Syria and Iranian bodies.
250 scholars from Egypt, Indonesia, Tunisia, Algeria, Lebanon, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, India and Iran attended the conference.
The participants reviewed ways of strengthening unity among Muslim scholars.
