Chinese President Xi Jinping and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on Friday discussed bilateral ties over the phone.

Hailing Putin's recent state visit to China and his attendance of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in the eastern Chinese seaside city of Qingdao, Xi said Putin's visit was a success and had positive results.

Xi said he highly cherishes the deep friendship with Putin as well as the great situation of the China-Russia relations.

As China and Russia are at their key moments of development, and the world situation and hot issues are at the crux of complicated changes, the close and timely  contact that we keep and the firm support that our two nations have offered to each other help safeguard the two countries' sovreignties, security  and development interests, and defend the regional and global peace, stability and justice, Xi said.

Xi said he is willing to work together with Putin to lead the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination to maintain sustainable, stable and high-level development.

Xi congratulated Russia on the successful opening of the FIFA 2018 World Cup  and wished a complete success of the event with Russia's delicate organization works.

Putin congratulated again the success of the SCO summit in Qingdao and thanked China for the warm reception.
