Also in attendance was Ali Matinfar, the acting chargé d'affaires of the Iranian Embassy in the United Kingdom and Permanent Representative of Iran to the IMO.
The 133rd meeting of the Council of the International Maritime Organization, affiliated with the United Nations, began a few minutes ago in London and will continue for four days. The council members have been elected by the Assembly of Member States for a term of two years.
The IMO, headquartered in London, is one of the specialized agencies of the United Nations. It plays a crucial role in legislating for safe, secure, and efficient international shipping on the seas.
The organization comprises 176 countries from different continents around the world and has five main committees: the Maritime Safety Committee, the Marine Environment Protection Committee, the Legal Committee, the Facilitation Committee, and the Technical Cooperation Committee.
