Iran Press/ Iran news: In an exclusive interview with Iran Press on Wednesday, the head of Iran's International Police (Interpol), Brigadier General Hadi Shirzad emphasized that the thing which we are really after and pursue seriously through our contacts with other countries is international cooperation, cooperation with International Police (Interpol) and coordination with other countries.
Shrizad was talking on the sidelines of the 9th meeting of the Iran Police with ambassadors, chargé d'affaires, and representatives of international organizations.
He added, there are essentially three ways in which criminals and suspects can be extradited when they flee the country. The first way is to extradite a criminal through an international organization, such as International Police (Interpol); this is when a 'Red Notice' is issued by Interpol and the extradition procedure is activated.
Brigadier General Shirzad added: "The second way of extraditing a criminal is through bilateral extradition treaties. For example, two countries may sign a bilateral extradition treaty and based on two-way interaction between the two countries, extradition of criminals occur."
The head of Iran's International Police went on to say: "The third way is through international conventions. Countries which are members of international conventions often have duties and obligations under these conventions. For example if a country has signed a convention to combat corruption and financial fraud, then that country is required to extradite corrupt criminals and suspects who are living in its territory."
Brigadier General Hadi Shirzad said, "a case in point was the recent extradition and arrest of a fugitive criminal and fraudster behind the 'Saamen gold coin scam'. Through Interpol, we located him abroad, and we managed to extradite him, and now he has been arrested in this country and he will be prosecuted in a court of law."
The 9th meeting of the Iran Police with ambassadors, chargé d'affaires, and representatives of international organizations was held on Wednesday morning in Tehran. Iran's Chief of police Hossein Ashtari delivered a keynote speech at the meeting.
