Iran's Navy begins a two-day missile exercise in the northern Indian Ocean and Sea of Oman, featuring widespread deployment of surface vessels, submarines, aircraft, and coastal missile systems, according to Rear Admiral Abbas Hassani, spokesperson for the drill.

Why it matters:
Iran's missile capabilities were a decisive factor in the 12-day war imposed by the Zionist regime and the U.S., forcing the enemy to request a ceasefire to prevent further damage from Iran's powerful missiles. By holding this missile exercise, Iran is trying to convey the message to its enemies that if war breaks out again, this time Iran's response will be more severe and damaging.

The big picture:
Brigadier General Aziz Nasirzadeh, Iran's defense minister, announced yesterday in a meeting with a group of foreign military attachés in Tehran: "In response to the enemy's possible adventurism, we will use new missiles. The missiles used in the 12-day war were manufactured a few years ago. Today, we have missiles that have much better capabilities than previous missiles."

What he is saying:
On Exercise Scope: The operational phase of this exercise will be conducted over two days with participation of surface and subsurface vessels, aviation units, coast-to-sea missile sites, sea-based missile platforms, and jungle warfare units in the northern Indian Ocean and Sea of Oman area."

On Exercise Content: In this exercise, based on experiences gained in previous years and the issued missile launch protocols, jungle warfare exercises and drone exercises will be conducted.

On Missile Systems: In this exercise, a wide spectrum of precision-guided cruise missiles with short, long, and medium ranges will be used to hit and destroy surface vessel targets.

On Exercise Objectives: [We aim to achieve] enhanced combat capability, inspiring hope in the noble Iranian nation, improved ability in planning, directing and controlling operational scenes, and creating deterrence based on domestic specialists' capabilities.

Key Points:

  • Drill demonstrates Iran’s readiness to deliver a stronger response in any future conflict with the Zionist regime and the U.S.
  • Surface and subsurface naval vessels, aviation units, coastal and sea-based missile sites, and jungle warfare brigades.
