Iran Press/Iran news: Iran's Acting Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri and Hungary's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó have held talks on the phone over bilateral ties and issues of mutual interest at the regional level.

Bagheri congratulated Szijjártó on the beginning of Hungary's rotating presidency of the European Union (EU). He said Iran and Hungary have always enjoyed good bilateral ties and their relations have expanded further over the past years.

The acting Iranian foreign minister added that it is necessary to strengthen stability in the region and avoid the spread of tensions. Bagheri further stressed that the continuation of the Zionists' crimes against the Palestinian people and the recent threats against Lebanon has created a new situation in the region, proving that the life of the occupiers depends on causing instability. Still, any new tension in the region will be detrimental to the warmongers.

The Hungarian minister of foreign affairs and trade for his part once again offered condolences to Bagheri and the Iranian government and people over the martyrdom of late President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian.

Szijjártó underlined the importance of diplomacy at bilateral and international levels and welcomed the strengthening of relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Hungary.

The Hungarian minister of foreign affairs and trade voiced hope that during his country's presidency of the EU, the talks with Iran will be further boosted.

Szijjártó also underscored the need to step up efforts to avoid an escalation of fighting in the region. 204
