Iran Press/Europe: Araghchi told the reporters on Tuesday night after the end of the meeting of the Joint Commission of the JCPOA in Vienna that the JCPOA members also believe that the US is not entitled to invoke the ‘snapback’ mechanism.
Iranian deputy foreign minister noted that the JCPOA members have outlawed US efforts in New York to use the trigger mechanism and believe that this measure cannot be effective.
Araghchi added that all members of the Joint Commission are determined not to allow the United States to impose its will and unilaterally destroy an agreement backed by the international community and the UN Security Council.
Referring to the special channel for Europeans to bypass the US Sanctions and trade with Iran called INSTEX, the diplomat said: "This channel has been much less effective than Iran's expectations so far."
Stating that Europeans also acknowledge INSTEX's weaknesses, Araghchi added they are working on a number of ideas to increase INSTEX's effectiveness, but Iran has no confidence in the system.
The remaining members of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action met in Vienna on Tuesday to take another step towards safeguarding the agreement against US unilateralism.
On Tuesday, May 8, 2018, US President Donald Trump unilaterally withdrew his country from the JCPOA in violation of Washington's commitments and announced the return of Iran's sanctions.
