Bahrain's most prominent and senior Shia cleric, arrived in the holy city of Qom in north-central Iran.

Iran Press/Iran news: The prominent Bahraini Shia cleric Sheikh Issa Ghassem arrived in the Iranian city of Qom on Saturday. Upon his arrival, the Senior Bahraini cleric paid homage to Lady Fatima Masuma's (peace be upon her) Holy Shrine.

Recently, Shaikh Issa Ghassem has also made the pilgrimage to Imam Reza's (peace be upon him) Holy shrine in Mashhad in northeastern Iran.

Furthermore, on 19 February, Shaikh Issa Ghassem visited the mausoleum of the founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the late Imam Khomeini (may his soul rest in peace), according to an Iran Press report.

Earlier on December 28, the leader of Iraq's Shia National Alliance, Seyyed Ammar al-Hakim met prominent Bahraini Shia cleric Sheikh Issa Ghassem, after the cleric's arrival in the Iraqi city of Najaf.

During the meeting, Seyyed Ammar al-Hakim welcomed Sheikh Issa Ghassem's arrival in the city of Najaf, after an absence of 50 years, saying every Iraqi individual respects Sheikh Ghassem who is dear for the Iraqi people.

 

Prominent Bahraini Shia cleric Sheikh Issa Ghassem's trip to the Holy city of Najaf has occurred after 5 decades, at the invitation of religious scholars (Ulema) of Najaf al-Ashraf.

Bahraini people have been holding protest rallies regularly since February 2011, demanding that the Al Khalifah family relinquish power and let a just system of government representing all the people of Bahrain to be established.

Al Khalifah regime, meanwhile, has instructed police and security forces to use brutal methods to suppress the public protests and arrest all activists and political opposition leaders in the country. According to human rights reports, Bahrain has the most number of political detainees in the world.  104/211/203
