The deputy head of the healthcare commission (of the Iranian parliament) has emphasised that intelligent and smart systems have many applications in health and medicine, with one of its principal benefits being "justice in healthcare or equal benefits for all in healthcare".

In an exclusive interview with Iran Press on Sunday, Dr. Seyyed Morteza Khatami, the deputy head of the healthcare commission (of the Iranian parliament, Majlis) said:  "Intelligent and smart systems  allow us to offer healthcare services to all the people in a much more efficient way, eliminating wastage and waste of resources".

Dr. Khatami added:  "Another important area is the economics of healthcare.  Intelligent and smart systems allow us to optimise our spending in healthcare.  By optimum spending , we can cut out inefficiency and waste, we can provide healthcare for all the people who need it, bringing maximum benefit to society. And most important of all, we can practice preventative medicine , we can adopt preventive measures , which will stop us from getting ill, and  improve public health."

The deputy head of the healthcare commission of the Majlis added:  "Intelligent and smart systems allow us to build a very useful database, a comprehensive database, containing all the information that we need about the healthy population and the sick  population in society,  again allowing us to practice preventative medicine."

"We can plan ahead and prevent illness from occurring by using the database of information on all healthy individuals in society.  Preventative medicine is extremely important".   

In further remarks, Dr. Khatami said:  "Another area where smart systems can help us in medicine is to identify those pharmaceutical drugs, medicines , medical equipment , or software which are  needed by doctors, nurses, or paramedics , so that we can plan well in advance and make sure that we have all the medical equipment and medicines that we need.

He added:  "In short there are lots of ways in which intelligent , smart systems can help us in medicine."
