Iran Press/Iran news: In a meeting of working groups of the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime (UNTOC, also called the Palermo Convention), which takes place between 9 to 13 September in Vienna, Iran's representative group reiterated in its statement on unified approach of international societies to encounter human trafficking, and need to pay proper attention to roots and backgrounds of this evil phenomena.
It was also cited in the statement that human trafficking for exploitation is the bitter reality of many women and girls around the world; the issue is one of the major human rights and dignity violation problems that many countries still suffer and no one is immune from it, Iran Press reported.
Reminding adverse effects of aggressions and foreign meddling, wars, terrorism, political instability, ethnic cleansing, genocide and unilateral uses of force as major elements and factors that finally lead to displacement and victimize people in human trafficking and slavery, Iran's representative said in the statement that "Addressing these challenges is the duty of the international bodies in the first place, including United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime."
"The effective way to deal with such events can be realized through a comprehensive and integrated approach, addressing root causes, preventing, protecting the victims, prosecuting and punishing the traffickers and international collective cooperation in all levels," the statement added.
The statement, citing Iran's active participation in fight against all forms of trafficking in recent years, continues that "Despite Iran's valuable steps for encountering negative effects of trafficking and its membership in many international treaties and conventions, and notwithstanding numerous UN resolutions to supports these efforts, Islamic Republic of Iran believes that unilateral actions which violate many UN resolutions and principles, still is a big hindrance that disrupts international cooperation and prevents Iran from accessing allocated resources. 101/212
