The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) must not expect Iran's full cooperation despite the body's politicized non-constructive treatment toward the country, noted the Spokesman of Iran's Atomic Energy Organisation (AEOI).

Why it matters:

IAEA's Board of Governors (BOG) is to pass a resolution, influnced by the Israeli regime's pressure against Iran, which could significantly affect the West's nuclear talks with Iran. Additionally, Iran’s potential countermeasures, such as scaling back cooperation with the IAEA or expanding its nuclear activities are expeceted.

What  he's saying:

Behrouz Kamalvandi stated in a televized program that the resolutions passed by the IAEA Board of Governors are primarily political and serve as pressure tactics by European countries. He emphasized that Iran has prepared a list of measures, including technical actions and adjustments to its cooperation with the IAEA.

Key Points:

  • Iran has deemed previous resolutions ineffective and has responded by increasing 60% uranium enrichment sevenfold and installing advanced centrifuges.
  • The U.N. Security Council is unlikely to prioritize legal considerations, as its decisions tend to be more politically driven.
  • Iran asserts that the adoption of a resolution does not necessarily justify invoking the snapback mechanism.
  • If pressures persist, Iran will reassess its extensive cooperation with the IAEA.
