The Russian top diplomat said that Washington and its allies seek to take control of the secretariats of international organizations in order to push decisions bypassing intergovernmental consultations.

Iran Press/Europe: Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov made the remarks at his annual meeting with students and professors at the Foreign Ministry’s Diplomatic Academy.

"The United States and its closest allies - the British and some others - are in fact making attempts to privatize the secretariats of international organizations, place their representatives there and control secretariat officials from countries on which they can put pressure in order to make the world believe it is the secretariats that put forward certain ideas that actually would not be accepted at international negotiations, while they concern very important issues," Russian Foreign Minister said, according to TASS News Agency.

The Russian top diplomat pointed out that as a result, the US had managed to push its plan of action to prevent violent extremism through the United Nations Secretariat.

According to Lavrov, the document says that extremism begins where authoritarian regimes shut down democracy and human rights so the international community should go over the heads of those governments to build relations with civil society. 105/201
