Iran Press/ Middle east: According to Reuters, carrying Syrian flags and pictures of president Bashar al-Assad, dozens of Arab Druze who live on the Occupied Golan Heights gathered on Saturday to celebrate what they consider to be success in the Syrian civil war.
Dressed in traditional black garb and white hats, the small crowd chanted and shouted into megaphones, pledging loyalty to Assad, while Syrian soldiers, hundreds of meters away, across a security fence and on the opposite side of a valley, yelled back in support.
The Druze are an Arab minority who practice an offshoot of Islam and whose adherents in Syria have long been loyal to the ruling Assad family.
Emil Masoud, 38, who lives in the village of Massade, said they gathered to "celebrate the final stages of the war ... and to celebrate with our people in Syria the final stage of victory."
Israel has seized the Golan Heights from Syria during the 1967 Six-Day War and continued to occupy two-thirds of the strategically-important territory ever since. The Tel Aviv regime has built tens of illegal settlements in the area since its occupation and has used the region to carry out a number of military operations against the Syrian government.
The Tel Aviv regime has launched sporadic attacks against various targets on Syrian soil over the past few years, in assaults slammed by Damascus as attempts to boost terrorist groups who have been suffering heavy defeats in battle against Syrian government forces. The Syrian army has also seized Israeli-made arms and military equipment from militants fighting pro-Damascus forces on numerous occasions ever since the war of militancy started in the country. Israel has also admittedly been providing medical treatment to the militants wounded in the Arab country.
In Apr. 27, Syria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Bashar al-Jaafari, said Syria sovereign right on occupied Syrian Golan, until the line of June 4th, 1967, is non-negotiable, adding Syria’s occupied territory should be completely restored.
