According to an Iran press report on Tuesday, Faleh al-Fayaz emphasized that the popular mobilization units (PMUs) , also known as Hashd al-Sha'bi , are well-organized, highly-disciplined regular forces who take their orders directly from the Headquarters of the Iraqi Armed Forces, and they also operate according to Iraq's constitution.
Faleh al-Fayaz emphasized that PMUs were created in 2014, after a "fatwa" (or religious edict ) was issued by Iraq's most senior religious authority ,Grand Ayatollah Seyyed Ali al-Sistani , after Daesh terrorists seized large swathes of Iraqi territory.
With the approval of the Iraqi parliament in 2016, PMUs were placed under the supervision of Iraq's interior ministry, and they also took their orders directly from the Headquarters of the Iraqi Armed Forces.
The Iraqi prime minister, Haidar al-Ebadi has also emphasized on many occasions that the popular mobilization units ( Hashd al-Sha'bi ) are controlled by the Iraqi government , and by Iraq's top religious authorities.
Thus, the PMUs are part and parcel of Iraqi security forces, and they played a crucial role in expelling Daesh terrorists from Iraqi territory.
The Speaker of the Iranian parliament Ali Larijani, has emphasized that Iran and Russia have both played a crucial role in establishing security and fighting terrorism.
Meanwhile, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani said Iran plays a vital role in fighting terror in the region, and that it would identify the time and the manner of punishing the Zionist entity.
He once again reiterated that the Iranian military advisors are present in Syria upon a request by the Arab country's government with the purpose of countering the threat of terrorism and playing a decisive role in defeating terrorist groups in the region.
