Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould El-Ghazouani

Mauritanian President appointed the former minister, Ismail Ould Badah Ould Cheikh Sidiya, as the country's new prime minister.

Iran Press/ Africa: "Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould El-Ghazouani issued a decree on Saturday appointing former minister Ismail Ould Badah Ould Cheikh Sidia as prime minister and tasking him to form a new government," a presidential statement said.

Mauritania's newly elected president, Mohamed Ould El Ghazouani, took over from President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz, who came to power after a military coup in 2008 and spent two five-year terms, Sputnik reported.

On June 22, Mauritania witnessed a presidential election in which the former PA Minister of Defense, Mohamed Ould El Ghazouani won 52%.

The public turnout in the elections was 62.66%.

Four candidates for the Mauritanian presidential elections announced their rejection of the preliminary results of the elections that resulted in the victory of the candidate of the Authority, the former Minister of Defense, Mohamed Ould Ghazouani.
