Iran Press/Iran News: "In contact with Lebanese Foreign Minister Charbel Wehbe, I reiterated Iran's firm solidarity with Lebanon," Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif wrote on Twitter.
"Iran is sending a field hospital and medicine to help Lebanon in the disaster," he said. "Iran stands by Lebanon."
Zarif expressed his condolences to the Lebanese people and government in a telephone conversation with the Lebanese foreign minister this morning.
Zarif stated that the Islamic Republic of Iran stands by the Lebanese people and government at all levels, and announced Iran's readiness to provide assistance in the form of urgent and infrastructural needs.
A massive explosion in the port of Beirut killed at least 70 people and injured nearly 4000 others.
Lebanon's Prime Minister Hassan Diab Tuesday called on "friendly countries" to support the country already reeling from its worst economic crisis in decades as well as the coronavirus pandemic.
Following the tragic incident, Iran's President Hassan Rouhani, in a message to Lebanese President Michel Aoun, stated that Iran is ready to send medical aid to Lebanon.
