In a telephone conversation on Thursday, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his French counterpart, Jean-Yves Le Drian, conferred on the latest developments regarding the 2015 nuclear deal, known as the JCPOA.

The telephone conversation was held between the two top diplomats as FM Zarif is in Singapore to take part in the 51st ministerial meeting of the ASEAN.

Zarif and his French counterpart Jean-Yves Le Drian conferred on the latest developments regarding the Iran nuclear deal following the US unilateral and unlawful pullout from the international agreement. They also discussed ways of ensuring that Iran would continue to enjoy the economic benefits envisioned by the JCPOA despite reinstatement of sanctions by the United States.

Apart from attending the ASEAN meeting, Zarif is also slated to sign the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation with ASEAN.

He has already held separate, sideline meetings with a number of representatives from participating countries, including Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, his Filipino counterpart Alan Peter Cayetano, Japanese foreign minister, Taro Kono, and Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu.
