IP - Following the incident involving the Sounion Oil Tanker in the Red Sea and the threat of oil leaks and environmental disasters, the Yemen Ansarrall Movement accepted a temporary truce for a rescue operation.

Iran Press/West Asia: Iran's Permanent Mission to the United Nations announced that the Yemen Army and Houthi Ansarallah Movement had agreed to a temporary truce to allow a rescue operation for the Sounion crude oil tanker in the Red Sea which was engulfed in fire.

"Several countries have reached out to ask Ansarullah, requesting a temporary truce for the entry of tugboats and rescue ships into the incident area," Iran's UN mission said. "Regarding humanitarian and environmental concerns, Ansarullah has consented to this request."

The Sounion oil tanker raged in the fire last week off Yemen's port city of Hodeidah. It was still on fire in the Red Sea and now appears to leak oil.

Yemen's Houthis spokesperson Mohammed Abdulsalam on Wednesday announced that Ansarallah accepted the rescue operation and towing of oil tanker Sounion after several international parties contacted the group.

Iran's UN mission responded on Wednesday: "The failure to provide aid and prevent an oil spill in the Red Sea stems from the negligence of certain countries, rather than concerns over the possibility of being targeted."
