Amirreza Masoumi wins the world championship in the 125 kg category freestyle wrestling at the Under-23 World Championships by defeating his Bulgarian opponent in the final match.

Iran PressEurope: Iranian freestyle wrestlers Amir Hossein Firouzpour and Amir Reza Masoumi won their matches at the 2024 U-23 World Wrestling Championships in Albania, securing gold medals.

Firouzpour beat his American opponent Jacob Cardenas 11-4 in the 92-kg gold medal match in the Albanian capital Tirana on Saturday.

Shortly afterwards, Masoumi trounced Alen Khubolov of Bulgaria 11-0 in the 125-kg category, emulating Firouzpour’s triumph.

Masoumi’s success marked the sixth world champion title for the 20-year-old wrestling prodigy.

Earlier, Iran’s Mehdi Yousefi and Mehdi Hajiloueian reached the competition’s final streak in the 79-kg and 97-kg categories.

Ali Mo’meni, Abbas Ebrahimzadeh, and Ali Khorramdel will be competing for the bronze medal in the 57-kg, 65-kg, and 70-kg categories.

The first major success for Iranian wrestling came on September 4, when the country’s Greco-Roman team secured the title at the Under-20 World Championships in Spain, bringing home six medals: four gold, one silver, and one bronze.
