Iran Press/ Iran news: After a 24-hour delay due to high winds at Blue Origin's launch site near Van Horn, Texas, the US, the New Shepard rocket lifted off at 10 am EDT (9 am local time; 1400 GMT), Blue Origin announced on Tuesday (Oct. 13).
Shatner, whose name has been synonymous with space exploration since he played Captain James T. Kirk in the original “Star Trek” series more than half a century ago, became the first nonagenarian to cross the Kármán line, the widely recognized boundary between the atmosphere and space about 63 miles above the Earth.
The flight was expected to last about 11 minutes and travel past a boundary for space called the Karman Line, about 62 miles above Earth.
The passengers were launched after boarding a crew capsule stacked atop one of the company’s rockets, which blasted off from a launchpad at Blue Origin’s facility in West Texas.
The uptick in human space flight handled by commercial space enterprises is part of a broader wave of interest by entrepreneurs and investors in space as a venue for economic activity.
Startups have developed businesses to provide fuel for satellites and to capture and sell data about Earth, as well as helping to launch rockets. Larger aerospace companies have also made investments in vehicles and services.
