Iran Press/Iran news: On the sideline of Wednesday's cabinet session, Chief of Staff of the President of Iran Mahmoud Vaezi answered Iran Press questions about the impact of Borrell's recent trip to Iran on JCPOA and trigger mechanism, saying, "On Monday, he traveled to Tehran to meet with Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, Iranian parliamentary speaker Ali Larijani, and the President. He was recently appointed to his position as the EU foreign policy chief, and based on the circumstances and our position, our fifth incremental step, that is why his visit to Iran and his negotiations were very successful."
Vaezi further noted, "Borrell accepted the fact that after the US withdrawal from JCPOA, the Europeans could not fulfill their JCPOA obligations. The EU official stated that Europe definitely wants to have good relations with Iran in all spheres."
He also talked about Europe trying to do its part to preserve the JCPOA. According to Josep Borrell Europe has no better agreement than the Iran nuclear deal, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action. He also asked us to cooperate with each other. That means what the E3 say about the trigger mechanism is not operational.
Vaezi also answered an IP question about the impact of Coronavirus on oil prices, adding "China's economy has an impact on the world economy and Coronavirus has had an impact on both the Chinese and the world economy. It is natural that it will have an impact on oil prices. But the impact is temporary, as both China and other countries seek to control the virus."
