Iran Press/America: In an interview with CNN Sanders told, "I think one of the strong things that we can do is not only stop military sales, not only put sanctions on Saudi Arabia, but most importantly, get out of this terrible, terrible war in Yemen led by the Saudis."
"It's clear, we cannot have an ally who murders in cold blood, in their own consulate, a critic, a dissident, that is unacceptable," Sanders said regarding Jamal Khashoggi, who Turkish authorities say Saudi operatives murdered in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on Oct. 2.
Khashoggi, who penned articles critical of the Saudi government, has been missing since he entered the consulate on that date.
When asked about a response to the disappearance of Khashoggi, Sanders suggested a major shift in the US relationship with Saudi Arabia and pointed to his previous call for the US to separate from the war in Yemen, which he said was "causing a horrible humanitarian disaster."
Sanders has previously been vocal about his opposition to the war in Yemen, and call that Saudis in Yemen "is unconstitutional."
"It is a humanitarian disaster," Sanders said. "So probably the most significant thing we should do is to end our involvement in the Saudi-led war in Yemen."
The US Senate Foreign Relations Committee's top senators penned a letter to US President Donald Trump pressing him to consider imposing sanctions on Saudi Arabia, in relation to alleged murder of Saudi dissident journalist, Jamal Khashoggi.
Saudi Arabia vowed retaliation as calls for sanctions against the Kingdom over the unsolved disappearance of journalist and prominent Saudi critic Jamal Khashoggi grow louder.
