The United States is deploying a new carrier group, missile defense vessels, and a fighter squadron to West Asia, intending to increase protection for the Israeli regime.

Iran Press/West Asia: The United States will deploy additional warships and fighter jets to West Asia to further its decades-long protection of the Israeli regime from possible attacks by Iran and resistance groups, the Pentagon said.

Tensions remain high in the region over Israel's assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Iran and a key commander of the Lebanese resistance group Hezbollah.

Missile defense forces were placed in a state of increased readiness to deploy, the Pentagon said, adding that its commitment to defend Israel was "ironclad".

The Leader of Iran's Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has vowed "severe punishment" against Israel for the assassination of Haniyeh and declared three days of national mourning.

The Hamas leader was assassinated in Tehran on Wednesday.

Haniyeh, 62, was the head of Hamas's political bureau and played a key role in negotiations aimed at reaching a ceasefire in the Gaza war.

His martyrdom came just hours after the regime in Tel Aviv claimed it killed Fuad Shukr, the top military commander of Hezbollah.
