A US airstrike on Friday killed ISIS leader Usamah al-Muhajir in eastern Syria, US Central Command (CENTCOM) said early Sunday.

Iran Press/Middle East: The United States military says it has killed a leader of the ISIL (ISIS) group in eastern Syria in a drone strike.

The strike on Friday resulted in the death of Osama al-Muhajer, the US Central Command said in a statement on Sunday.

Three MQ-9 Reaper drones that the US military said had been intercepted by Russian fighter jets over Syria on Friday were the same drones that later carried out an airstrike that killed a top Islamic State group leader, the US Central Command announced Sunday.

It was not immediately clear how the US military confirmed that the person killed was Muhajir. Central Command did not give any more details about him.

The statement said there were no indications any civilians were killed in the strike. The military was assessing reports that a civilian may have been injured.
