IP - The US House of Representatives on Saturday with broad bipartisan support has passed a $95bn legislative package providing security assistance to Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan. This included $17 billion in defense aid to Israel.

Iran Press/America: Of the aid to Israel, some $5.2 billion will go toward replenishing and expanding Israel’s missile and rocket defense system; another $3.5 billion will go to purchasing advanced weapons systems; $1 billion to enhance weapons production; $4.4 billion for other defense supplies and services provided to Israel; and some $2.4 billion to US operations in the region amid the Gaza war.

Some $9 billion will provide humanitarian relief to people in Gaza as well as other war-torn regions with analysts expecting roughly $2 billion would go to Gaza.

The legislation proceeded on Saturday to the Democratic-majority Senate, which passed a similar measure more than two months ago.

The Senate is expected to pass the measure next week, sending it to Biden to sign into law.

The bill will also prohibit funds going to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency, which provides support to Palestinian refugees.

Netanyahu: Thank you, friends, thank you America!

Israel’s Foreign Minister Israel Katz said the House’s approval of aid “sends a strong message to our enemies.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the bill “demonstrates strong bipartisan support for Israel and defends Western civilization. Thank you, friends, thank you America!”

After 197 days of Israeli war on Gaza since October 7, 2023, at least 34,049 people have been killed and 76,901 wounded in Israeli attacks on Gaza.

PA condemns US military aid

The Palestine president spokesman condemned US military aid for Israel and said "The US House’s approval of billions of dollars in new military aid for Israel marks “an aggression against the Palestinian people".

The money would “translate into thousands of Palestinian casualties in the Gaza Strip” and the West Bank, said Nabil Abu Rudeina, a spokesman for Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, calling it a “dangerous escalation”.

US funds Israel to kill our children: Mahmoud Abbas

Earlier, The Palestinian Authority announced that it will reconsider bilateral relations with the US after Washington vetoed a Palestinian request for full United Nations membership this week, PA President Mahmoud Abbas said Saturday in an interview with the official WAFA news agency.

“While the world agrees on the application of international law and stands by the Palestinian right, America continues to support the occupation, refusing to compel Israel to stop its genocidal war,” Abbas was quoted as saying. “It provides Israel with weapons and funds that kill our children and destroy our homes, and it stands against us in international forums, in positions that do not serve security and stability in the region.

On Thursday a US veto prevented the Security Council from passing a resolution recommending that the General Assembly recognize the Palestinians as a full UN member state.
