Iran Press/West Asia: “Two million people are facing acute hunger across Gaza,” WFP Executive Director Cindy McCain stated on Monday in a post on social media platform X.
McCain revealed that only a fraction of WFP’s food deliveries had reached Gaza last month, with the situation in northern Gaza being particularly dire. “North Gaza was hit hardest – just two trucks reached thousands of hungry people,” she added.
The northern region of Gaza has been under a complete siege for nearly two months, with Israeli authorities ordering mass evacuations. However, Palestinians attempting to move south have been targeted by Israeli snipers and drone strikes, further complicating efforts to flee and access aid.
McCain emphasized the need for immediate action, urging “safe, unfettered access at scale” to deliver aid, save lives, and prevent a looming famine.
The humanitarian crisis escalated following Israel’s genocide in Gaza, launched on October 7, 2023, which has killed nearly 45,000 palestinains so far.
