New York (IP) - A United Nations legal expert has sharply criticized Western media for downplaying recent clashes in Amsterdam involving Israeli forces disguised as football fans.

Iran Press/America: Francesca Albanese, the UN Special Rapporteur on the human rights situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, has called for an investigation into media coverage, saying that it has repeatedly “obscured” the reality of Israeli actions worldwide.

In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Albanese stated that Western media outlets have “disseminated disinformation” that conceals incidents involving Israeli forces and downplays the severity of events. She expressed concern over a pattern of biased reporting, describing it as a dangerous disservice to the public.

“Once again, Western media should be investigated for the role they are playing in obscuring Israel’s atrocities,” the Italian lawyer wrote. Albanese, who specializes in human rights and refugee issues, argues that by misreporting or ignoring key details, media organizations may be indirectly complicit in international crimes. She cited instances in other contexts where international tribunals have held media figures responsible for complicity and incitement.

Her comments follow some Western media outlets minimizing the actions of Israeli supporters who, disguised as fans of Maccabi Tel Aviv, were involved in confrontations with locals in Amsterdam on Thursday and Friday. According to Albanese, media failure to report comprehensively on such events undermines the accountability of those involved and may further fuel tensions.
