Tehran (IP) - The Iranian Foreign Ministry has sharply criticized the United Nations for its failure to address the ongoing violence in Gaza, accusing the organization of becoming "dysfunctional" in the face of the Israeli genocide.

Iran PressIran news: Esmaeil Baghaei, the spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, expressed these concerns on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Thursday. His comments came on the occasion of United Nations Day, which marks the founding of the UN on October 24, 1945.

In his post, Baghaei questioned the current state of the UN, writing, "Where is the UN today?" He lamented that the organization, originally established to "save succeeding generations from war and atrocity" and to promote "the rule of law and justice," has now become a "frustratingly dysfunctional platform" that has been unable to take effective collective measures to halt "Israel’s maniacal genocide in Gaza."

Baghaei also condemned Israel’s aggressions beyond Gaza, accusing the country of carrying out an "aggressive war on Lebanon and beyond." He further criticized the UN’s inaction, suggesting that the United States' "unconditional support" for Israel has emboldened the regime to continue its "aggressions and atrocities across the region."

The spokesman also noted that Israel has been responsible for the deaths of 230 UN staff members and declared the UN Secretary-General as persona non grata, which, in his words, amounted to "shredding the UN Charter." Baghaei pointed to Israel’s defiance of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) ruling, which called for an end to the violence in Gaza, as evidence of the UN's inability to enforce its decisions.

Baghaei called for a revitalization of the United Nations, emphasizing that the organization is "not limited to the US" and must be restored to function by its responsible membership to "rein in the rogue entity’s warmongering." He urged other member states to take action to prevent further violence and human suffering in Gaza and the broader region.
