Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan told the NTV channel that the Turkish embassy in Syria will resume operations on December 14 after a 12-year hiatus.

Iran Press/West Asia: "When will our embassy begin its operation? Our diplomats have departed today. On Saturday, they will begin their work," he said.

Previously, the media reported that Turkey appointed Ambassador to Mauritania Burhan Koroglu as its charge d'affaires in Syria.

Relations between Syria and Turkey had been strained for years, ever since Damascus accused Ankara of supporting its opponents.

Burhan Koroglu has been appointed as the interim charge d’affaires for the Turkish embassy in Damascus.

Turkey has many plans for Syria after the Assad family.

Ankara sees it as its strategic goal to exterminate People's Defense Units (YPG), which are operating in northern Syria and which it brands as a branch of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (recognized as a terrorist organization in Turkey), Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said.

"The elimination of the YPG is our strategic goal. YPG non-Syrian elements must leave the country as soon as possible. The YPG command must also leave the country. And those who opt to stay must surrender arms," he said in an interview with the NTV television.
