Iran Press/ America: Khalid Sheikh Mohammad and four other men are set to be charged for their alleged role planning the 2001 terror attacks, which killed 2,976 people in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania.
Khalid Sheikh has been accused of being the mastermind behind the strike, the New York Times reported.
The military judge Col. W. Shane Cohen of the Air Force set the date for the beginning the joint death-penalty trial's military jury selection.
The information on the trial date was included in a scheduling order, according to the Times. It also listed materials prosecutors were required to give to defense lawyers by Oct. 1.
The men were arraigned in 2012 at Guantánamo Bay, and the trial will be held at Guantánamo's Camp Justice.
If the 2021 timeline holds, jury selection would start nine months before the 20th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks. One major issue the judge has yet to resolve is what evidence will be used at trial.
