Iran Press/West Asia: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who traveled to Baghdad at the head of a delegation today, Friday, for consultations with Iraqi officials and to participate in the trilateral meeting of the foreign ministers of Iran, Iraq, and Syria, held discussions with Iraq's Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein.
In his meeting, he highlighted the ongoing consultations with Iraq on bilateral and regional issues. He noted that his trip to Baghdad aimed to exchange views on the developments in Syria and the attacks by terrorist groups supported by foreign entities on Syrian cities. He emphasized the importance of coordination and consultation with regional countries to prevent the spread of insecurity.
He stressed that the ongoing insecurity and instability in Syria pose a threat to the security of all regional countries. He stated that terrorist and Takfiri groups, with the support of the Israeli regime and the United States, have devised a long-term plan to create chaos and violence in the region.
Iran, Iraq Boost Coordination to Combat Terrorism
Araghchi added that for the Iraqi government and people, the threat of terrorism is much more comprehensible given their bitter and costly experience in effectively combating ISIS terrorism. It is only natural that Iran and other regional countries would seek to increase coordination and consultations with Iraq and among themselves to face this new challenge.
In this meeting, Iraq's Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein reiterated his country's principled stance in supporting Syria's territorial integrity and national sovereignty, and its fight against terrorism. He emphasized that the threat of terrorism is palpable for the Iraqi government and people. Hussein stated that Iraq has launched extensive diplomatic efforts at the regional and international levels to garner support in combating Takfiri terrorism.
