Strengthening and developing relations in all political, economic, cultural, military, and security fields with neighboring countries and the region is one of the key policies of the Islamic Republic of Iran government, Masoud Pezeshkian said during a meeting with the Emir of Qatar.

Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and  Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian answered the questions at a press conference on Wednesday in Tehran.

Why it matters:

Qatar, located in the south of Iran, maintains positive relations with the country. As a member of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council, Qatar can serve as a bridge for fostering relations between Tehran and the council.

  • The meetings between officials from the two countries highlight the strong historical, cultural, and economic ties they share, as well as their similar perspectives on regional and international issues.

  • These countries can take proactive measures to maintain regional stability and security while emphasizing the importance of Syria's territorial integrity and the involvement of all its citizens in determining their own future.
  • Additionally, there is a call for Islamic countries to take action to alleviate the suffering of the people in Gaza and to stop the ongoing crimes against them.

  • Continued visits by officials from both countries should be encouraged to strengthen our ties. 
  • Economic and trade cooperation must be further developed, and we should work to increase trade between the two nations.

  • Iran advocates for constructive relations with the Cooperation Council in the Persian Gulf, a stance that we fully support. 
  • Additionally, the Palestinian issue was one of the most significant topics discussed during our meetings.
