Iran Press/ Iran News: Speaking at the weekly news conference on Tuesday, Rabeie went on to stress that Iran spares no effort to assist both sides in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict to reach mutual understanding.
In another part of his speech, the government spokesman said that Iran is following the recent conflict in the territories of the Republic of Azerbaijan with care and concern.
Iran's senior official elaborated further that "For centuries, the Caucasus region has been under the unifying umbrella of Islamic-Iranian civilization, the geography of coexistence and reconciliation of different religions, languages and cultural and religious identities, but since the colonial emphasis on identity differences narrowed the field to the commonalities of centuries of civilization, we have witnessed operations such as population engineering, ethnic cleansing, and mass deportations."
He added: "We believe that the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia, inspired by history and the coexistence of civilization in the pre-colonial centuries, and relying on their cultural commonalities, can find a peaceful way to resettle the displaced and return to pre-occupation times. And the Islamic Republic is ready to help establish lasting peace in the region."
The President's Assistant for Social Relations stated: "The Islamic Republic's position toward the need to respect and recognize the territorial integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan is very clear and the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran has repeatedly emphasized this legitimate right within the framework of international law and UN resolutions."
"We also believe that the dispute between the two neighboring countries of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia has a peaceful solution and that Iran, Turkey, and Russia can assist the two neighbors in implementing UN resolutions in order to resolve their differences peacefully," Rabiei said.
