Tehran (IP) - The 8th meeting of the Special Working Group on Investment Encouragement in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) will take place in Tehran from February 20 to 22.

Iran PressIran news: Mostafa Pak-Baten, the General Director for the Office of Foreign Economic Relations at Iran's Investment, Economic, and Technical Assistance Organization, emphasized the importance of countries securing their national interests by joining influential regional organizations.

The Organization for Investment Economic and Technical Assistance of Iran (OIETAI) is responsible for promoting, financing, and regulating foreign investment in Iran. The website offers information on key projects, different sectors in Iran, and an investment guide.

He highlighted that Iran, facing attempts at isolation by its enemies, has long sought membership in key regional bodies to safeguard its interests.

Pak-Baten explained that Iran became an observer member of the SCO in 2005 and applied for full membership a year later. At the 23rd SCO summit held virtually on July 4th, 2023, hosted by India, Iran was officially recognized as the ninth permanent member.

The SCO, comprising Russia, China, India, Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Iran as members, plays a significant role in global economics and geopolitics. With approximately 30% of the world's GDP and 40% of its population represented among its members, the organization holds substantial influence.

Pak-Baten highlighted that Iran's participation in the SCO not only contributes to expanding the organization but also challenges the existing world order dominated by Western powers.

Given the strategic positions of key members like China, Russia, and India within the SCO framework, it is considered a formidable entity challenging Western hegemony.

The upcoming meeting in Tehran will provide a platform for member countries to discuss investment opportunities and promote multilateral cooperation,' said Pak-Baten.

By fostering foreign investments and joint ventures in various sectors through initiatives like the Special Working Group on Investment Encouragement, SCO aims to enhance economic development among its members while reshaping global power dynamics.
