Iran Press/ Iran News: Receiving the Iraqi Defense Minister Juma Inad Saadoun on Sunday, Rear Admiral Ali Shamkhani pointed to the two country’s cooperation in the fight against the US-backed terrorists in the region and Iran’s support to rescue Iraq from Daesh (ISIS) and noted the cooperation must be elevated to a strategic level.
Admiral Shamkhani stated that one of the US objectives in West Asia is to cast aspersion and division among the countries of the region, stressing the vigilance of all countries in the region to confront the conspiracy.
He put an emphasis on the protection of Iran and Iraq’s borders and noted that the Islamic Republic of Iran strongly responds to any component of insecurity that tends to disrupt the calmness of two countries’ people.
Still, referring to the explicit acknowledgment of the US’ senior officials that their presence in West Asia brought nothing but war, instability, and devastation of resources, Admiral Shamkhani appreciated the Iraqi parliament’s adoption of a bill to expel the US forces from Iraq, considering their exit as an element of paramount importance to maintain peace in the region.
Iraq’s Defense Minister Inad Saadoun for his part appreciated Iran’s comprehensive support in repelling terrorism from Iraq, stressing the strengthening and expanding Iran-Iraq relations, especially in the military and security fields.
He stated that no third country can affect the relations between the two countries, and highlighted that the experience of the two countries in the fight against Daesh showed that through joint cooperation, crises can be overcome and suitable opportunities for cooperation in other areas can be created for the welfare and peace of the people of the two countries.
