IP - An Azerbaijani serviceman was killed by sniper fire on the border with Armenia, the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan reported Saturday. Ministry of Defense of Armenia called this report false in its own press release.

Iran PressAsia: "On September 30, sniper fire was opened from Armenian Armed Forces positions near the settlement of Zerkend at Azerbaijani army positions near the settlement of Ashagy-Ayrym, ... Azerbaijani Serviceman Vyusal Orudzhev was killed as a result," the statement reads, adding that Azerbaijani forces take response measures.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Defense of Armenia called this report false in its own press release.

"The report by the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan claiming that, on September 30, Armenian forces opened fire towards Azerbaijani positions located in the eastern part of the border, killing an Azerbaijani serviceman, is false," the Armenian statement says.

The Russian peacekeeping contingent continues to perform its duties in Nagorno-Karabakh, the Russian Defense Ministry said Saturday, adding that no ceasefire regime violations were registered in the past 24 hours.

"The Russian peacekeeping contingent continues to perform its duties in Nagorno-Karabakh. The contingent maintains continuous interaction with Baku and Stepanakert, aimed at preventing bloodshed, ensuring safety and compliance with humanitarian law regarding civilians. No ceasefire violations were registered," the Defense Ministry said in its bulletin.

Meanwhile, Nazeli Baghdasaryan, the press secretary to Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, said 100,417 people had arrived in Armenia from Nagorno-Karabakh, which had a population of around 120,000 before Azerbaijan reclaimed the region in a lightning offensive last week.

The departure of more than 80 percent of Nagorno-Karabakh's population raises questions about Azerbaijan's plans for the enclave that was internationally recognized as part of its territory.
