Tehran(IP)- Iran's Minister of Road and Urban Development said on Monday that the volume of the country's transit reached 13 million tons last year and set a new record which paves the ground for turning the Islamic Republic into the regional hub.

Iran PressIran news: Mehrdad Bazrpash in an exclusive interview with Iran Press correspondent regarding how Iran can turn into a transit regional hub said: "In the transit sector, promising agreements were signed with regional countries so, last year road transit experienced a 58% growth compared to 2022."

"The volume of transit reached 13 million tons last year and set a new record." "With a pre-planned US plot, they sought to remove Iran from transit corridors and routes, but Iran's initiative created a way to deal with it," he further explained.

Bazrpash said: "We hope that by the end of 2024, the volume of transit will reach more than 20 million tons and added that at the beginning of the martyr Ebrahim Raisi's administration, the volume of road transit was 4.7 million tons, and in 2021, the figure reached 9.3 million tons.

Elsewhere, Iran's top diplomat explained: "We also witnessed the same figure in 2022, but last year it was accompanied by favorable growth and the volume of road transit in the country reached 14.7 million tons."

He added: "One of the main issues in creating infrastructure is the completion of corridor chains, the main focus of which is on the railway track; for the reason, all efforts are made to connect the Persian Gulf and the South to the North."
